AI nodes: knowledge, Vector Stores and embeddings

Generated on 2026-10-20 from a running server by tools/reference.mjs. Do not edit this page by hand.

The step that gives an agent its Knowledge Bases, the Vector Stores that keep texts and find them by meaning, and the embeddings they use.

This page lists 9 nodes. How to read a node reference.

The Knowledge Bases an agent or an LLM Prompt searches.

Resource · in the catalogue: AI > Knowledge · type ai.knowledge.base

Searches a Knowledge Base of the workspace: the passages closest to a question, with the document each comes from.

When to use it. To let an AI Agent find what your documents, pages or feeds say (policies, guides, articles, manuals): plug it into the agent’s Knowledge port and choose the base; the agent searches it whenever it needs to. For facts kept in rows (prices, stock, orders), use a Data Table tool instead; to remember the conversation, an AI Agent Session.

Fields

NameTypeRequiredDefaultWhat it is
knowledge_base_idAssetRefyesThe Knowledge Base it searches.
resultsNumberno5Most passages given for one search.

Texts kept with their vectors, found again by meaning.

Resource · in the catalogue: AI > Vector Stores · type ai.vectorstore.inmemory

Texts kept with their vectors for the time of one run, and found again by meaning; free, with no account.

When to use it. To keep texts while a run lasts and find them again by meaning, for free: what a step inserts, a later step or an agent of the same run finds. Nothing is kept after the run: to keep texts from one run to the next, use Qdrant, Pinecone or pgvector. For what an agent should know (documents, pages, feeds), use a Knowledge Base instead.

Fields

NameTypeRequiredDefaultWhat it is
memory_keyTextnodefaultNames the collection: the steps of a run that use the same key share the same texts.

Resource · in the catalogue: AI > Vector Stores · type ai.vectorstore.pgvector

Texts kept with their vectors in PostgreSQL (pgvector extension), and found again by meaning.

When to use it. To keep texts in your PostgreSQL database (with the pgvector extension) and find them again by meaning, from one run to the next. Needs a PostgreSQL connection string; the table is created at the first insert. For what an agent should know (documents, pages, feeds), use a Knowledge Base instead.

Effects. reads outside, changes something outside.

Fields

NameTypeRequiredDefaultWhat it is
connection_stringTextyesPostgreSQL connection string (the database must have the pgvector extension available).
table_nameTextnoagentivity_vectorsTable name (created at the first insert). Letters, digits, underscore only.

Resource · in the catalogue: AI > Vector Stores · type ai.vectorstore.pinecone

Texts kept with their vectors in a Pinecone index, and found again by meaning.

When to use it. To keep texts in your Pinecone index and find them again by meaning, from one run to the next. Needs your Pinecone connection and an index whose size matches the Embeddings model; for a free option without any account, use In-Memory Vector Store. For what an agent should know (documents, pages, feeds), use a Knowledge Base instead.

Effects. reads outside, changes something outside, costs.

Fields

NameTypeRequiredDefaultWhat it is
pinecone_credentialsCredentialsyesPinecone index connection. Connection of type pinecone.
namespaceTextnoPinecone namespace: the collection within the index (leave empty for the default namespace).

Resource · in the catalogue: AI > Vector Stores · type ai.vectorstore.qdrant

Texts kept with their vectors in a Qdrant database, and found again by meaning.

When to use it. To keep texts in your Qdrant database and find them again by meaning, from one run to the next. Needs your Qdrant connection; the collection is created at the first insert. For what an agent should know (documents, pages, feeds), use a Knowledge Base instead.

Step · in the catalogue: AI > Vector Stores · type ai.vectorstore.step

Inserts texts in the connected Vector Store, finds the closest to a question, or deletes texts by id.

When to use it. To keep texts during a workflow and find them again by meaning: insert product sheets, notes or answers, then find the closest to a question in a later step. Connect a Vector Store (In-Memory is free and lasts one run). For what an agent should know (documents, pages, feeds), use a Knowledge Base instead.

Effects. writes in the workspace.

Fields

NameTypeRequiredDefaultWhat it is
operationChoiceyesget_manyWhat to do. Choices: insert_documents, get_many, delete_documents.
documentsTextnoInsert Documents: one text, a JSON list of texts, or a JSON list of { “text”: ”…”, “metadata”: { … }, “id”: ”…” }. A text inserted again with the same id replaces it.
metadataTextnoInsert Documents: what is said of every text, as a JSON object (e.g. { “source”: “catalog” }).
split_long_textsBooleannofalseInsert Documents: split long texts into passages, each found on its own.
clear_firstBooleannofalseInsert Documents: empty the collection before inserting.
queryTextnoGet Many: the question to find the closest texts to.
limitNumberno4Get Many: the most texts to give.
metadata_filterTextnoGet Many: only the texts whose metadata has every value of this JSON object (e.g. { “kind”: “laptop” }).
idsTextnoDelete Documents: the ids to delete, as a JSON list or separated by commas.

Outputs

NameTypeWhat it holds
documentsStructuredGet Many: the texts found, the closest first — each with its id, text, score (the higher, the closer) and metadata
countNumberGet Many: how many texts were found
insertedNumberInsert Documents: how many texts were inserted
idsTextListInsert Documents: the ids of the texts inserted
deletedNumberDelete Documents: how many ids were deleted

Vector Storeyesai.vectorstore.*1

Text-to-vector models — plug into the Embeddings port of a vector store or of a step that compares texts by meaning.

Resource · in the catalogue: AI > Embeddings · type ai.embeddings.local

Free, offline embeddings (all-MiniLM-L6-v2) — no credentials, no external API calls.

When to use it. To compare texts by meaning for free, offline: plug it into the Embeddings port of a vector store or of an SEO step (Sitemap Structure, Internal Link Suggester). Vector stores already use this model when nothing else is set.

Plugs into a place that accepts ai.embeddings.*.

Resource · in the catalogue: AI > Embeddings · type ai.embeddings.openai

Embeddings via the OpenAI API — usable standalone or plugged into any vector store’s “embeddings” input.

When to use it. To compare texts by meaning with an OpenAI model instead of the free local one: plug it into the Embeddings port of a vector store or of an SEO step (Sitemap Structure, Internal Link Suggester).

Effects. costs.

Fields

NameTypeRequiredDefaultWhat it is
credentialsCredentialsyesOpenAI credentials used to embed text. Connection of type openai.
embedding_modelChoicenotext-embedding-3-smallEmbedding model. Choices: text-embedding-3-small, text-embedding-3-large, text-embedding-ada-002.

Plugs into a place that accepts ai.embeddings.*.

Re-order retrieved documents by true relevance after a vector store’s initial retrieval.

Step · in the catalogue: AI > Rerank · type ai.rerank.cohere

Re-ranks documents against a query using Cohere’s Rerank API — reorders a vector store’s candidate results by true relevance.

When to use it. To put a list of texts in order of relevance to a question and keep only the best, for example the results of a search. Give the texts as a JSON list of strings, such as [“first text”, “second text”]; needs a Cohere account.

Effects. costs.

documentsTextno[]JSON array of document strings to rank.
top_nNumbernoMaximum number of ranked results to return (leave empty for all).

Outputs
